Not there

Yesterday, upon the stair
I met a man who wasn't there
he wasn't there again today
I wish that man would go away

Randommites

Im in zurich right now. we have another week here left in Switzerland. dah penat berjalan from france to italy to switzerland for the past week, so this time we're just gonna stay at lugano for the next four days. sorry for the weird typing because the keyboard here is wacko.

hotel lawa. modernish design. everything is bloody expensive here. french boys are extremely good'looking. i bought everyone's 'buah tangan' already. monte carlo, monaco has really nice architecture. why la this keyboard has the Z replaced with Y?? and where's the tanda seru key?

Anyways. to summarize everything. SWITZERLAND IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY EVER. prettier than new zealand in fact. i feel like heidi, with the rolling hills and mountains look like theyre ablaze with fire from the autumn foliage.

Wheel of Life

Hope, despair, wash, rinse and repeat.

I want to rob a bank right now. I'm penultimately, utterly, incredibly, broke.

I can tell, that you had enough of these useless sunsets

I have two depressing news today. Sigh.

1) My brother's friend passed away today due to leukemia. At the age of 25. My brother's taking it really hard -- he hasn't returned home since morning.

Boys & girls, please eat your veggies. It's worth it in the long run, honestly.

2) My 'Backpacking Around Europe' trip is confirmed -- 5th October until 19th October. Naz says our convocation might be on the 20th. Sigh. I can't say no to either one, can't sacrifice any. We'll see what happens next.

And man, all my enthusiasm for the long-awaited trip has fizzled out somehow.

Conflict

So I got into a fight with my mom about the interview. Apparently I couldn't go because I had no time to do my portfolio and no time to waste time -- I have to submit my working drawings to the office the same day. I submitted them at 5pm -- too late to go there or do anything.

She was questioning why did I have to go through so much effort just to get a leave and come back to Kl for the interview and everything, and then suddenly just blew it off last minute. I know she was just defending my own rights, but when you're working in a company and you are doing 1/6th of the project, and they can't submit without my drawings -- in which the deadline is today -- what do you do?

1. Become selfish and abandon everything for the sake of your own personal interest?

2. Or miss out an opportunity because you're busy sacrificing yourself for other people?

Anyways, both sucks. I can't pick one or the other. So I'll just be an idiot and not sleep tonight and finish my work and go back early morning by plane instead of bus because I don't have a leave tommorow.

Here's what my mom said to me: grow a spine.
Is that true?

Selamat berbuka puasa! :)

Miss those Ramadhan times with my archy batch...

I ingat lagi semester satu, Cot sanggup balik Puchong sebab nak berbuka puasa hari pertama dengan family. Pastu datang balik pagi hari Arch Comm jugak.

I ingat lagi semester tiga, I and Syima and Syima's roommates sanggup jalan dari dorm ke bazaar Ramadhan kat luar pintu gerbang Uitm. Hampir setiap hari pulak tu. Pastu usha super senior yang selalu jual bubur lambuk yang sedap hahaha.

Semester 5, dah ada kete, senang skit nak pergi bazaar ramadhan pastu bukak puasa depan laptop masing2 tgk drama jepun (I dan Intan la. Syima tgk anime). Ada sekali sebab nak rush sgt balik rumah, tertumpah air kelapa kat lantai kereta. Kereta I berbau masam/basi untuk lebih 2 minggu k! >.<;

Malam yang ada kelas structure, sempat lagi drive 40 minit pergi Ipoh sebab nak makan all-you-can-eat buffet McD. Sampai je kelas structure, pergi studio sebelah terus baring dan tidur hehehe.

Oh, I ingat lagi trip pergi KL time bulan puasa. Jalan dari Pudu sampai ke Masjid Negara! Dalam kelaparan dan kehausan! Bila azan maghrib je, fuuuh~~ heaven tul!

Ramadhan sem 5 lah yang ada paling banyak kenangan.

Finally -- kat Shah Alam sem 7, teringat pulak pegi Williams ramai2 utk bukak puasa. Kalo tak pun, pergi bazaar yang kat stadium Shah Alam. Ada one time tu lambat sgt 'shopping' sampai terpaksa bukak puasa dlm kete... Lagi best time sahur -- tidur nyenyak2 kat studio, pastu pukul 5.30 pagi turun makan kat cafe FSPU.

Setiap tahun mesti ada kenangan manis time bulan puasa, ever since I masuk Uitm. So, kali ni rasa pelik sebab dah takkan spend time with my batchmates anymore....

Last day in KL

I am now packing for tommorow... will be leaving in 8+ hours... ;_;

If yesterday was hang-out time with my high school friends, today belonged to my university friends pulak.

I picked up Syima and Nabilah in Cheras, went to Hafeez's kenduri doa selamat, and then we sidetracked to Megamall to walk around.

Sorry ah, nampak rambut. Tak perasan pulak. Ingatkan nak photoshop-kan rambut tu, tapi malas. Takpe. Saya akan insaf suatu hari nanti insyallah.

Abang baju kuning tu -- the lucky person who gets to study overseas. Jaga diri baik2 tau! Nampak kangaroo, ingatlah saye! :P

In Toys'R'Us Megamall. Sempat lagi camwhore dengan anak patung pulak, eh korang ni dah umur brape tahun? Isk isk.

Nabilah dan rakan-rakan sejenisnya. OK MANA YANG LAGI COMEL??

Oh and.... Happy Father's Day! My mom celebrated today by booking a nice high tea at some hotel in KL. Sorry, don't remember because I wasn't invited >=(

Well even if I was invited, I'd pass it up. Anyways, apparently when I got back, my mom annouced that my dad joined a competition in the hotel, and won 'Father-of-the-year' prize.

I almost choked on my barley drink there and then. Father-of-the-Year? YOU'VE. GOT. TO. BE. JOKING. If you put my dad on a scale of most generous father to most kedekut father, my father would have dented the bottom list, making a record on the kedekut factor by 1000000x.

"Oh actually, dia menang 'most sporting father of the day' kind of award la" my mom said. "He acted like a cowboy."

Fuuuuuh. I think she read my mind. Now that I can accept XD

Raison D'Etre

I will be working with my uncle in Johor Bahru starting Monday.... for the next 3 months.

I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable about it, not because I'm not independent (I am, very! If possible, I'd like to move out, rent a place and live on my own...), but because I feel like I'll be DEPENDENT on my relatives instead.

I hate to menyusahkan orang. If possible, I'd do everything by myself. Dahlah kerja kat my uncle's firm (saje2 nak menolong sbb dorang byk gle keje), pastu tinggal kat rumah boss and makan/transport free smua... ah, so guilty!

Tapi ada hikmah jugak. At least I'll be forced to be disciplined when I'm at someone else's home. Wake up early, actually help around the house instead of mongering in front of the computer all day long...

I'll see you again at the end of September. Lol. Okay just kidding. Mesti I akan update blog ni jugak.

And a change of atmosphere, scenery and people will clear my mind and help me move on. It's gonna be a great life.

Ok chows! I need to finish Maz's recording studio project~

Last day of Archy BSc 2009

Last night was my last time in the studio. Last time bathing there. Last time sleeping on the floor underneath my table. Last time making stupid jokes about 'last time'.

Today felt very long.

Submitted BC model in the morning, slept till noon, went out for lunch with Syima + window shopping at Bukit Raja. Review in the evening. Photos, cleaning up the gallery, and finally the last gathering. Whew, all that in one day. I still can't believe this is already 2 hours old.

During review

JSB + ARC semester 08 of Dec- May 2009

Another take XD

While we were resting in the gallery after sweeping away the last excess of litter in the room, it suddenly started to glow bright orange and this sunset could be seen. (This was taken way later -- the initial sunset view was more breathtaking)

I call it a metaphor of my architecture life -- the waning of the sun represents the last dying moments of our life here in UiTM. Once the sun is swallowed up whole, it means that this chapter is officially closed.

I shall wait for the sunrise, and begin a whole new day.

Our last gathering at KFC section 13. It's a bit sad why people would pass up on free food and heartwarming conversations -- which might be our last time together. I guess I'm the sentimental type.

Elementary school

I've been surfing through some blogs lately, and stumbled across my elementary schoolmates' blogs. What a shocker! Imagine having not seen them for like, what? 9 years already.... and then THIS. People do change, usually for the better.

I wonder how would it be like to have an elementary school reunion. High school isn't that of a big deal, because tight bonds are created during that period of time, and even if we weren't at all that close back then, at least we still can call each other 'friends' 4 years later. Maybe because we were more mature mentally. But elementary school... I don't even remember half of the faces in my std 6 yearbook! Even if I do remember some of them, I doubt it that they'd remember ME.

But even then, there are some people who stuck together since elementary school and are still friends even now. Even if they were separated by time and distance. Like Millie and Rosian. Me and Maz (to be fair, she was only gone for a year).

I wonder what people thought of me back in SKBD? I sure was quiet, bookish (er, I still am..?), a bit blur, and awkward...

I was always the peacemaker between two friends. Come to think of it, I was ALWAYS the middleman. Not in university, definitely, but back then... *shudders*

I was always the one sitting at the back daydreaming because I was too tall to be put at the front. And the back of the class was always quiet... so...

I always had a crush on the uber popular guys in class, which was lame now that I think about it.

I joined the popular crowd for a while but backed out of it because all they talked about was guys and clothes and material things. I was interested in books and was bored out of mind.

I hated wearing the pinafore and started wearing the baju kurung uniform as early as std 5.

*suddenly feels the urge to hunt around for old SKBD pictures*

RMIT or Uni Melb??? Dilemma

Just got back from Auntie Ruby's housewarming party in Bangsar. I had a chat with my cousin, who's an architect and was offering me a job at his Wangsa Maju branch. He's actually taking over his dad's firm, Kaz Architects, but for now my uncle is handling the main branch in JB and he's managing the KL branch.

He asked me about Anne (sebab Anne kerja kat my uncle's firm last sem), and then we talked about going overseas. Apparently he's from Queensland University (damn! bestnyer) and he recommended me to go to University of Melbourne.

Pulak dah.

The reason why I wanted Uni Melbourne back then was because his wife (engineer from RMIT) told me that RMIT wasn't as good as Uni Melbourne. So I was planning to work for 4 months and then apply, but then things happened and I changed my mind to go to RMIT instead. And as I was preparing my portfolio for RMIT this May's education fair.... I'm confused again. Now what??

I really trust my uncle and cousins' tastes: after all, they were the ones who recommended me to go to UITM for my diploma because it had the best architecture course. They were right. And maybe they are right again about this?

I think I have to do some research on which is the best option:

RMIT

Pros

  • no need 4 months working experience
  • cheaper application fee = 70 aussie dollars (but if I send it through education fair, it's free)
  • intake in february - can apply right now

Cons

  • maybe not as good as University of Melbourne?
  • The school of thought is based on trend architecture (?) Not so useful in the working field.

UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

Pros

  • better reputation?
  • intake in february - enough time to prepare for application
  • the school focuses more on construction -- a valuable skill after graduating

Cons

  • higher application fee = 100 aussie dollars (but free if I send through education fair)
  • 4 months working experience required
  • must graduate from bachelor science first
--------------------------------------------------------------

In theory, RMIT should be winning because it has fewer cons. But I have to factor in the fact that my first and original choice had always been University of Melbourne, since day one.

Who knows? Rory from Gilmore Girls had always aimed for Harvard, but chose Yale instead. (Ya Allah nak compare-kan diri dengan Rory... gila perasan)

Which should it be? I have to make a quick decision now...

Should I give up...?

Or should I keep on chasing pavements?

I want another family holiday.

Blue

I was feeling a little blue after Social Planning class, like how I've been feeling through this whole semester. So I dragged Nabilah to the 'Tasik' (yang banyak2 orang jogging tu) and we talked about our future while watching the ripples of the lake. There was this weird pinkish spots all over the riverbank -- it was supposed to be telur katak, apparently. Ew, gross.

Anyways, we talked about a lot of things. And in the end she made me realize a lot of things that I've been worrying this semester. Summary is; stop worrying and live life to the fullest! Ehehe. Okay, worries thrown away.

I was in my baju kurung lagi... cangkung at the riverbank sambil makan roti -- hish, memang tak tau malu betul la ktrg ni. But I and Nabilah memang camtu, dulu kat Perak pun we would sometimes walk to the paya yang kat entrance UITM tu and feed the fishes haha... okay BM I berterabur wtf.

Anyways, I'm happy design has started. Time to concentrate for my last project ever in UITM. Haah. Since I'd rather die than continue my degree in uitm (or any local university, for that matter) -- I've been waiting for this opportunity since forever, I won't let this go even if I have to fight tooth and nail for it.

It's design time.

Re re: Motivation

Think of the Swiss Alps.

The Swiss Alps.

Syurga di bawah tapak kaki ibu

Everyone in this world wants the best for themselves and their loved ones. We want luxury, happiness, wealth and health. If it were possible, we want everything to remain young and pretty and never changing.

But it's inevitable when we get older and helplessly watch things fall apart. We desperately try to find a way to cure it, but it still marches solemnly to its destined end. And we can only watch from afar, wondering why it's happening to us.

It's called the Chaos theory. According to this theory, everything in this world must disintegrate sooner or later. Metals rust. People die. The world crumbles. The sun explodes. The universe dies.

Parents get old. We take over their responsibilities. It's the way of life.

I feel bad for blaming my parents about not understanding me. I shouldn't have said all those things. After all, they're still human. They have their own strengths and weaknesses.

My mom's getting old. I can tell that she's given up on a lot of things -- just accepting her life just as it is. In the end, she can't work forever. I know she always hoped for us to take care of her, sending us to all those tuition classes, hoping we'd succeed in life. It's only human nature to expect to reap for what we have sown. Sacrifies are not made without hoping there wouldn't be anything in return.

I really want to make a difference. I would love to say to my mom that she doesn't have to work anymore and I will support her from now on. But I'm still selfish. I want to continue my education to the level that I want. Just give me a few more years. Then I'll do the best to repay my mom for all the things she did.

And er-- maybe this holidays I'm gonna try some recipes haha. Better than lazing around doing nothing.

A sigh is just a sigh

... I can stare at you all day.

Wish time can just stop right now.

=(

6 things:

1. I drove back home on ONE bar of fuel! ALL THE WAY. I never want to experience something like that ever again. I was dreading that the car would suddenly die in the middle of the road, and I'll be stuck there without any money and no credit....

2. Wanted to go to my skin doctor's appointment, but tak sempat. Oh well. I'll go tommorow la.

3. I have a family day tommorow but I'm not sure if I can go bacause I have some stupid module I have to attend. Maybe I'll drive alone to PD after the module... uuu.... I'm always alone nowdays...

4. Speaking of being alone, I went to PTPTN's centre by myself just now to deal about my loan. Bodoh punya PTPTN. Grrr. I just hope that I've settled it for good. And then after that I wanted to find the nearest Maxis centre (to fix my phone pasal xleh terima message orang), tapi tak jumpa.

5. I forgot to go to the Streamyx centre... damn... naiklah lagi our monthly bills...

6. Dragon Quest!~ ;) Remember this?

Fashion Toast

I've been browsing through fashion blogs lately. Before, I posted about a petite Indonesian girl -- this time it's a tall, lanky, blonde from California.

Her style is very a slouchy, tousled Californian look. Sometimes bohemian, sometimes vintage. Not many people can pull off this look without looking like a drowned rat, but she definitely can.

And those legs! I'd kill for those. She's already tall, and she wears HEELS? Whoa.

An update

I'm online at the studio! =P

A summary of the last few days/week:

Datin Fatin

CLICK FOR FULL VIEW PLZ

Me and Syima's pond design for a house in Kiara View. We didn't present to the client yet, but we passed it onto Syima's uncle first.

After this, we have to do some landscaping/interior design work a bit. Have to hunt out for suitable plants!

Shah Alam is pretty okay. It's only 20 minutes from my house, through Sprint highway and Federal. I'm bringing my car only for this week, and when the car sticker thing has been implemented, I'll have to walk je la.

Can exercise a bit =P

Speaking of exercise, a bunch of us went to try out those weird gym things at the back of our dorm (damn... dormitory life again) just now. We were super excited like monkeys, hayun sini la, lompat sana la.... and then we noticed that Sara Anis was actually taking our pictures from the balcony! Dem. I bet you it's gonna go into the montage after this....

I'm feeling quite fired up today. A new semester always gets me inspired to study hard. I don't like to compete and I'm sincerely happy when someone gets good results, but obviously it inspires me to buck up my own studies so that I can get results like them. Is that called competitive?? Haha. I hope not. Jealousy and dengki kills ambition faster than anything.

New resolutions for this sem:

1. Stay at the studio longer. Since there's wireless here, so that'll be pretty easy. And don't clutter up the space! I'm mostly tidy, but I get lazy/messy when nearing submissions.

2. Organize my notes neatly!

3. Try not to procrastinate and stop being such a 'follower'. If I want to go to the studio and no one wants to teman me, I should just go alone. Takyah la nak ikut2 orang sgt.

4. Be more particular/detailed about construction! Jangan nak tipu2 lagi. Okay la. Tipu2 sikit. =P

5. Jangan leka sgt with the internet!!!! Most important thing!!!!

.....
.....
Since the last resolution is... quite dangerous... I should stop blogging now!

Ja ne.

I'm sick and tired of always being the good guy

Just thinking of going back to UITM, I feel like suffocating. Even though I get to meet all my old classmates and continue the course I love, I just don't feel eager anymore. I just wanna get away.

I can't wait for semester 8 so that I can immediately apply for overseas scholarships/loan. I don't care where. As long as it's not Asia. I also don't care how I'll get the offer. Even if I have to take up MARA loan and add a few thousands to my already running-high PTPTN loan, I will still accept it.

I'm so sick... and I'm so tired of keeping up a facade anymore. I wanna leave everything behind. I know the clock is ticking fast.... there'll be only two more semester left, thank god. It's time to sever ties and I'm hella glad for that. I can start anew in a whole different environment and with a whole different bunch of people. Shit. I can't wait to escape.

Kishel says that going overseas is a bit overrated but I don't care. I want I want I want I want! It's a promise to myself and to my parents. I don't want to be some stupid girl slacking around at home with no future prospects. And I want to go overseas with my OWN money/effort, not because my parents paid for it or because of a rich husband. That just being dependant.

I wonder what do they call people like me...? Alpha female?
