Disney Dream Portrait Series by Annie Leibovitz

Remember this post I made about Annie Leibovitz's Disney + Hollywood Stars' stunning photography?

Well, I found more recent stuff she did this year.

My favourite in the new collection. Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges as Belle and the Beast transformed in Beauty and the Beast.

Olivia Wilde as Snow White's wicked and vain queen and Alec Baldwin as the man in the Magic Mirror in Disney's classic tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

 .
Queen Latifah flexes her tentacles and takes a villianous turn as Ursula in The Little Mermaid

Another version of Beauty and the Beast with Drew Barrymore as Belle. This is part of a shoot for Vogue and not for the Disney Dream Portrait Series.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as Prince Phillip and Aurora from Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

See more here.

Gundam 00 movie ending [thoughts]

I swear there is a conspiracy against me getting what I want in this show.

1. First season: 16-year-old hero falling for a lady who is 8 years older than him. Ok fine. It's just age differences. When they get older it will not matter. Besides, they are the intended 'Official Couple', which means that they will surely get together.
(Possibility of them ending up together is 99%)

2. Hero sneaks into the heroine's room at night a la Edward Cullen, talks about God and the state of the corrupted world to a girl who is half-dressed and alone in her room. And before she could answer, he leaves. Wtf? Doubting his sexuality now. Or maybe he was just the stoic and emotionally-stunted type of person.
(Possibility of them ending up together 90%)

3. Second season: Hero is now 20 years old, and heroine is 28. There's less issue about pedobear-ness and squick. Only.... now he sometimes thinks of her as a surrogate!mother (she even resembles his late mom). Whatever. Oedipus complex is common in real life, who cares. It's not like they're related anyways.
(Possibility ending up together: 70%)

4. There's three more episodes to the end of the series, and there has been no progress in their relationship. Getting worried now. How are they gonna wrap things up, considering that the last two episodes will definitely feature 100% fighting sequences?
(Possibility of ending up together: 60%)

5. Speaking of the third last episode.... a random pink-haired bridge bunny crew member gives the hero a flower as a token of good luck before the final battle, and suddenly everyone assumes that the hero is better off hooking up with this pink-haired girl. Chaos and lulz ensues. My little shipper heart is weeping.
(Possibility of them ending up together 50%)

6. Also, while we're still talking about that damned third last episode... all the characters had a little monologue about the person they cared about the most, and the hero famously thought of his gigantic robot vehicle instead of the heroine.
(Possibility of them ending up together 40%)

Now, my last chance is the movie. The movie, which will fix all the wrongdoings of the past TV series and redeem itself in my eyes. (...What? This series is about big robots fighting each other in outer space against the backdrop of war and politics? It's not about romance?)

7. Movie: Hero saves the world, becomes Jesus Christ, leaves the human world to make peace with aliens, comes back as a half-alien to the heroine 50-FREAKING-YEARS-LATER, when she is already 80 years old, blind, and a spinster (she actually waited for this guy??). The hero hasn't aged at all, and glows silver from head to toe.  He's not even human anymore.

Oh and the hero says: "Finally, I'm back. (oh and we can finally be together even though you could die of old age anytime soon, wasting your life away waiting for me to come back from my little trip around Jupiter. Oh and don't worry about the 50 year gap between us, I mean I have always been younger than you right? Harhar.)"  *Hug*

......

......

Thank you Gundam 00 creators, for crushing my poor little heart into pieces, dropping steaming horseshit on the remnants, covering it in acid and then vacuuming it away to be thrown into the rubbish bin.

I'm now gonna pretend that the whole movie doesn't exist.

Favourite song ever

Bloody Monday mangaka draws 'Inception' poster

Warner Bros and the creators of Bloody Monday collaborated to produce a hybrid poster of Inception + Bloody Monday.

I'm totally obsessed with both Bloody Monday and Inception, so this was a pleasure to see :D

Btw, in relation to this post's topic, I thought this Inception poster was absolutely kickass:

I know everyone's talking about the ending of Inception, so I thought I'd give my own theory about it too: (SPOILER GALORE! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT)

--------------------

Remember the first few minutes of the movie? Cobb is lying on a beach, his family are making sandcastles... I think that he was dreaming the whole movie, his wife is alive, they are on a vacation at a beach. That's why there's so many elements in the movie about water, beaches... and his washing ashore to limbo is... parallel to his current state in reality -- lying on the beach with the waves crashing upon him.

1. Water crashing through the walls of Saito's dream/Cobb being pushed into a bathtub of water in the earlier parts of the movie
1. Dream Level 1: Yusuf's dream was a raining city
2. Dream Level 2: A storm happens in the hotel bar
3. Dream Level 3: Snow, avalanche (water-related)
4. Limbo: washing ashore on the beach

Plus, notice that throughout the whole movie (with the exception of the ending), his children's poses are the same? In the beach scene, they are in the same position, does the same actions -- only with different clothes. Then the same scene happens again in dream level 2, the elevator dream with Ariadne, the limbo with his wife, and the ending. Don't you think its weird? If you remember the beginning of the movie, Cobb is lying on the beach, his last vision before he closes his eyes to sleep are his children. They becomes the focus of his dream because its the last thing on his mind before he falls into his subconscious. He then ends up in a convulted dream about a world where people can share dreams just by hooking up a vague-looking device, is chased around the world by unnamed corporations, the events of his wife's death, his final mission to see his kids again... aren't they all a bit too unreal? Besides, we don't know anything about the other characters' backgrounds, and how can the grandfather be in France one day, and the other in the States with his kids?

Also, when Ariadne and Cobb were on the elevator of Cobb's memories, the highest floor consisted of the beach scene with his family -- in fact that is actually the nearest level to reality, a rare glimpse into his current state in the real, REAL world -- where his brain is subconsciously projecting, telling him that he's dreaming.

In the ending, it doesn't matter that the totem keeps spinning or not -- because it really is just a dream. He'll wake up soon, on a beach, with his wife and kids.

And here's the best part: The movie is called Inception. So we think that it's about the characters, that Fischer was the victim of the inception. Some theorizes it as Cobb being the victim. But, actually; those are just red herrings, just distractions. The real receiver of Inception? Us. The viewers.

The movie gives us an Idea (the totem in the end, Cobb's kids), and we build it as we go along, perceiving it as what we believe. Those who believe that Cobb is still dreaming in the ending; they think so because that's what they've been MANIPULATED to believe. Same goes for those who think the end is real. We've been incepted by Inception.

Hollywood Deathnote script leaked???

NOT REAL POSTER. But I wouldn't mind if they casted someone like this for Light.

So the first draft of Warner Bros' adaptation of Deathnote has been leaked. The PDF file is floating in cyberspace somewhere, but people's been saying that the script looks genuine enough. Argh.

Anyways, fake or not (hopefully it's fake), here are some changes made for the movie:

---------------------------------

1. The script took out Ryuk, the Death God who gave Light the deathnote! And the one who killed Light in the end of the story! How are they gonna justify the plot now?

2. They took out Misa, and replaced her with a high-school girlfriend. Again. I've never liked his girlfriend in the Japanese live-action, so I'm guessing I won't like it in the Hollywood version too...

3. The setting is in America.

4. Light becomes a lawyer in the end.

5. NEW NAMES.

Luke Murray - Light Yagami

Sophia (Luke's girlfriend) - Misa's replacement

Sarah Murray (Luke's sister) - Sayu Yagami

Captain John Murray (Luke's dad) - Soichiro Yagami

Watari and L remain the same.

And... last but not least:

6. The script has a happy ending, with Light burying the Deathnote in cement.

Last page of the script.

...

No, I'm not liking this.

Marie Digby

My older brother just got back from Bangkok last Sunday... he got me this sweet Coca-Cola t-shirt, only written in Thai. Man I'm so jealous that he has a job that involves travelling...

Anyways, anyone heard of Marie Digby? You know... famous through Youtube and such. I remember Ayu was such a big fan of her back in Sem 5.

Well, news is that she had recently released a Japanese album! She's like half-Japanese but is living in the USA, but it was nice for her to embrace her Japanese ancestry. Her Japanese accent needs some work though.... But, I'll forgive her for that because she did a cover for my FAVOURITE JAPANESE SONG EVER, Shiina Ringo's 'Gibusu'.

"Well, 'cause you look like Kurt (Cobain), so aren't I Courtney (Love)?"

She also did AKFG's 'Kimi to Iu Hana', which I thought was better than the original....

So I don't look back
Still I'm dying with every step I take
But I don't look back
Just a little, little bit better

Macross F Movie: the aftermath

Well, well. After obsessively lurking in various forums and pressing the refresh button every 5 minutes, I finally got some spoilers on the movie.

(okay, this is for the TV series, but hey, it's the same idea)

The freaking love triangle is still unresolved!

Sigh.

Review of the movie will come later -- when some nice Japanese guy decides to record the movie and post it online.

I guess I have to wait for the second movie (god knows when that'll happen) to see a clear resolution on the whole one-guy-and-two-girls thing.

Okay, back to lurking for spoilers. F5 F5 F5 F5

I love these songs

I am OBSESSED with The Gossip. Her voice is so freaking AMAZING. Who cares about her weight anyways?

Memory

Finally. Japanese version of Younha's song in Rideback. Absolutely stunning, but I think Tablo does the rap better.

Kioku (Memory) - Younha ft Goku (Jap)

I prefer the Korean version. Maybe because Tablo actually wrote this song, so obviously he knows how to sing it better. And because Korean is Younha's native language after all.

Memory - Younha ft Tablo (Korean)

Omg! Wondermilk

Read these books please!

Even if you're not a serious reader and only read Harry Potter and Twilight, I still recommend them to you. Most of the stories are directed towards younger readers anyways, so the narrative is simple to follow.

MY LIST OF TOP-FIVE FAV BOOKS THIS YEAR

1. The Giver by Lois Lowry

Have you watched Pleasantville, The Truman Show or Stepford Wives? (Or literature-wise: 1984 or Brave New World)

Where everything is the same -- the same houses, the same trimmed lawn, the same community... everything is pleasant and there's no war, crime, prostitutes, neglected children? A world without feelings, choices, individuality, music and colour?

Well then, 'The Giver' is basically a kid's version of the movies above -- where people live in an unsettling 'utopia' that's been artificially created for their benefit.

For Jonas' twelveth birthday, he was selected to become a Receiver of Memory for his community. Little does he know that this will change his life forever...

2. The Time-Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

I can only think of another movie that is *very, very vaguely* similar to this book -- 'The Lake House' featuring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves (because both involve time). Saying that, this book is one of the most innovative love stories of all time.

So, I recommend you READ THIS OR SUFFER. Haha. I'm sure it's popular enough, without me promoting it to you....

It's a story about a guy who suffers from a rare disease called Chrono-Displacement Disorder, where his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time; in moments of his past, present and future. This book tells the story of him and his wife, Clare, who has to deal with this problem. Hence -- The Time-Traveler's Wife.

Or if you're not a book person, you can always wait for the movie to come out this month. And hey, Eric Bana is playing Henry. That itself is a reason why you should watch it :P

3. Life of Pi by Yann Martel

It's about a 13-year old Indian boy who loves 'God' so much that he embraced Hinduism, Christianity and Islam at once. And he ended up on a lifeboat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with a 450-pound hungry Bengal tiger, hyena, zebra and a female orang-utan.

Sounds interesting?

The book described it as 'a story to make you believe in God'.

And Jo's birthday message to me was: 'This book changed my life. So I bought another so you can have it too.'

4. The Book Thief by Markus Zasak

It's about a German girl living in the WWII, and escapes the harsh brutality of war and violence through reading. She then finds books here and there — in a snowy graveyard, in a Nazi book-burning, and inside the local mayor's house.

I don't enjoy wartime stories much, but somehow this book kept me hooked until the end. There's a touch of humility in the way the story is potrayed -- sometimes even foreboding -- due to the narrator of the story being 'Death' (The Grim Reaper) itself.

5. The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho

A beautifully inspiring story about a young shepard boy, an alchemist, and God. The boy explores Spain, Tangier, Sahara Desert and Egypt in order to find a treasure buried near the Pyramids, but ultimately discovers there's more to gain other than worldly riches -- he acquires knowledge and enlightenment of the spirit.

Beautiful customized notebooks!

Broken aesops and warped reality

So... the new Twilight movie is coming out soon. New Moon.

I'm impartial to the series, with the favouritism slide scaling down to almost 0%.... but while I do have friends that loathe Twilight with every single bone, I have other friends who love them to death. I know, stuck in middle.

So, what is with stories that highlight the passionate, temporary infatuation of teenagers rather than real love? I mean, Jacob was there for Bella. He was kind, caring, attentive, friendly. Why couldn't he get the girl, for once?

All Bella ever thinks about Edward is that he's perfect. Angel smile. Beautiful eyes. Achingly beautiful muscles. What is she, a Greek idol worshipper?? He can read minds. He's gorgeous. He's mysterious and dangerous but is the sweetest most romantic boyfriend. He's flawless.

(or if he's not being 'flawless', he's either creepily stalking her at night to watch her sleep, or taking out the engine of her car so that she couldn't see Jacob, or trying to commit suicide just because he thought Bella had died, or making Bella desperately dependent on him. No wait, lemme guess -- it's *romantic*.

And other controlling, abusive things.)

Think girls. Do you really think someone that perfect is interesting?

In fact, I think it's boring. It is character flaws and quirks that molds an interesting personality, because we can actually relate to them.

Would you rather prefer a knight in shining armor that has the personality of a brick wall?

Or the best-friend who's actually likeable, fun and has actual flaws like a normal human being? Oh and he actually goes through a lot of character development, compared to the rest who are stuck in emo!emo!wangst mode 95% of the time.

I'd pick the best friend definitely.

For now, I'm rooting for Jacob Black and Taylor Lautner, Jacob's actor, even though everyone knows the outcome of the love triangle already.

He's singularly the only character I can stand in Twilight ...before Smeyer decided to butcher his characterization into pieces in the following books. One word. Nessie.

Booo Smeyer.
